When our client in Fairway, KS, contacted us, they had an incomplete backyard with nowhere to sit and spend time outside. While they had a pool, it wasn't maintained, and the surrounding area wasn't being utilized. They came to us wanting to create a beautiful, functional outdoor living space where they could host and enjoy the pool to the fullest. Fortunately, that's exactly what we did! This full backyard renovation project was extensive and started with installing a natural stone patio with steps and a paver pool deck. Then, we constructed an outdoor kitchen for the patio, a retaining wall along the pool deck and house, and a small fire feature near the connecting steps, plus renovated the pool. Finally, we added new landscaping with mulch and various plants to liven up the area!

We Installed a Natural Stone Patio With Steps & a Paver Pool Deck

The first step of this backyard renovation project was to install a natural stone patio along the back of our client's house with steps leading down to the pool. This patio connects their back entrance to the pool area while serving as a great gathering spot. We used unique pieces of stone arranged in a flagstone style to achieve an equally rustic and modern look.

We also installed a paver pool deck around the perimeter of their pool, with the patio steps creating a seamless transition between these features. Indiana limestone paving stones were used to contrast the patio so it's a separately defined area.

The Next Step of This Project Involved Adding an Outdoor Kitchen & Renovating the Pool

Adding an outdoor kitchen to the natural stone patio was the next step of this project. Our client wanted a way to host and serve meals outside easily, and this feature allows them to do just that. We constructed it from durable stone and completed it with a countertop and stainless steel amenities. We strategically placed it in the corner opposite their back entrance, allowing enough room for people to walk around the patio and sit.

This project also involved renovating the pool. Before, it was worn down and damaged, and the water wasn't properly cared for. So, our team utilized our skills to repair these issues, restoring the pool to its pristine condition. We also elevated its appearance even more by incorporating a waterfall feature into it!

A Retaining Wall & Small Fire Feature Were Installed

Since the pool deck was on lower ground than the house and patio area, our team installed a stone retaining wall along the nearest side. Not only does the wall further define it, but it also holds back the soil of the landscaping we planned to incorporate. A small, charming fire feature was also built into the wall by the patio steps, offering the perfect spot to sit and enjoy fireside warmth during chilly evenings. Though minimal, it brings yet another eye-catching focal point to our client's outdoor living space.

We Finished This Backyard Renovation Project With Landscaping Elements

The final step of this backyard renovation project was to integrate new landscaping! We installed a landscape bed around one side of the pool deck and back fence, along with the corner of the patio by the steps and grass. We also added raised planter beds to the retaining wall! Then, we filled them with dark brown mulch and a variety of shrubs and colorful flowers to bring natural beauty to their backyard. Our client now enjoys an equally functional and stunning space with a purposeful, cohesive design.
