We had a client in Overland Park, KS, who wanted to do a complete overhaul of their outdoor living space. They originally had a patio and some landscaping, but they contacted us to transform it into a poolside oasis. So, we got to work! Our team installed a beautiful gunite pool complete with a spa and sun shelf for lounging, as well as a concrete pool deck. The next steps of this project were to build a pool house with an outdoor kitchen and a retaining wall around one side of the pool deck. Then, once these main features were complete, we finished this backyard transformation with a dry creek bed to add some natural beauty while ensuring proper drainage and landscape beds filled with lush plants.

When our client first reached out to us, they already had an existing patio in their backyard. However, they wanted to turn it into a multi-functional space with a pool and a more modernized aesthetic. This backyard transformation began with the installation of the gunite pool. With its luxurious, sleek look, the pool serves as the main focal point, boasting a rectangular shape, a built-in spa, and a sun shelf for lounging.

Additionally, we built a concrete pool deck around the swimming pool. It has a simple, clean design and creates the perfect foundation for relaxing by the water. We also ensured it was large enough to accommodate the other features our client wanted to incorporate into their outdoor living area.

We Constructed a Pool House, Outdoor Kitchen & Retaining Wall Around the Pool Deck

With our client's new pool complete, we got to work on the other features involved in this project. These include the pool house, which we designed to match the color and material of their home so it looks like it's meant to be there. Not only does it offer a sheltered place to lounge under the overhang, but it also has an outdoor kitchen! We added a small countertop with bar seating and various amenities that allow them to cook meals outside.

A retaining wall was also constructed around the side of the pool deck furthest from the house to separate it from the rest of our client's backyard. It further defines the space and holds the soil back to maintain its structural integrity. Additionally, we built it from matching materials to the pool spa and outdoor kitchen, maintaining a cohesive look among these features.

The Finishing Touches of This Project Included a Dry Creek Bed & Landscaping

After the pool and other outdoor living features were installed, we added the finishing touches to this backyard transformation project. We incorporated a dry creek bed along part of the retaining wall to bring some natural beauty and keep water from collecting where it shouldn't. We also renovated their landscape beds along the house, filling them with lush plants to revitalize their appearance and enhance their new outdoor living space with pops of greenery. Our client now has a beautiful, refined backyard where they can host gatherings and cool off during the summer in style.
